Quality of Life among Myanmar Migrant Workers, Samut Sakhon Province

Abstract

This is a research on the quality of life among Myanmar migrant workers in Samut Sakhon Province. Data were collected from 384 persons by using questionnaires and analyzed for percentages, average, maximum, minimum and Chi-square test.

The results of the study found that quality of life among Myanmar migrant workers in Samut Sakhon Province needs to be improved overall (56.51 percent). In each aspect, it was found that the mental and physical health were at a good level, while relationship, social and environmental aspects were at the level that required improvement (65.10, 56.77, 82.81 and 87.50 percent, respectively). Personal factors include the number of members living together, using of health services in the past 3 months, regularly used health care facilities, and health services that are often used, had statistically significant correlation with the quality of life of Myanmar migrant workers (p-value < 0.05).

Recommendations are: migrant workers should have a better understanding with their employers in providing travelling benefits, residential improvements benefits, adjusting working hours, organizing activities for migrant workers. In the government sector, there should be a policy to support or cooperate with employers in providing various welfare benefits to migrant workers. and access to information, a Myanmar language interpreter should be hired, and documents from government public relations office should be provided in Myanmar language.
