บทคัดย่อ

This article aims to project an analysis of relations between Islamic traditions and the religious life of those involved in the practice of sorcery against the backdrop of objections to the 'Khong Khaek' film. It revealed that the magical practices refiect an overlap in the coherently integrated body of religious dimensions which Islamic traditions occupy, constituting the folk religion as having been adhered by the local people of Thai Muslim society until the present time. Nevertheless, magical practices have been portrayed as anomalous to the authentic religion, due to a gradual process of secularization which involved tensions caused when secularism's justification of an official religion and modern education fostered by scientific mode of thinking worked in tandem. In other words, criticisms against the controversial film represent an instance of the exchange of influence between the two's processes. Meanwhile, it was anticipated that the magic-contaminated religious life would be existent as a buffer zone between official religion and scientific knowledge. Keywords: So
