Abstract

The objectives of this research were to (1) study local wisdom in Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan Province, (2) study the state of community participation in application of local wisdom for educational management, and (3) develop the guidelines for application of local wisdom for educational management in Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan Province.  This research was a qualitative research. The research informants were a group of 30 local wisdom people, and a group of 65 school administrators, teachers, school board members, parents, supervisors, community leaders, local administrators, and stakeholders in Phra Pradaeng District. The research tools included an interview form, and guidelines for focus group discussion. The data were analyzed with content analysis.  The results showed that (1) the area that contained the highest number of local wisdoms was that of the invention aspect of fine arts and crafts; the processes of learning and accumulation of experiences were different; they included self-access learning, ancestor’s heritage, learning from teachers or instructors, and receiving training; (2) regarding the community participation in application of local wisdom for educational management, it was found that the highest level of community participation was the participation in giving information and planning;  and (3) there were 3 guidelines for application of local wisdom for educational management, namely, the promotion of educational institutions as learning centers on local wisdom for the community, the development of school-based local curriculum, and the seriously development of additional courses on local wisdom.
