Abstract

This study aimed to 1) study the components of teachers’ instructional competencies, 2) the needs for instructional competencies development of teachers, and 3) develop guidelines for instructional competencies development of teachers The research consisted of 3 phases. The first phase studied the components of instructional competencies of teachers. Phase 2 assessed of needs for instructional competencies development of teachers, and studied the current and expected situations of instructional competencies development of teachers. The sample consisted of 331 school administrators and teachers, selected through a multi-stage sampling technique. The instruments used were a set of 5-level rating scale questionnaire with a Dual-Response format. The reliability index on the current situation was 0.98, and the expected situation was 0.97. The statistics used for analyzing the data were mean and standard deviation. using the Modified Priority Needs Index (PNImodified). Phase 3, studied the guidelines for instructional competencies development of teachers used were agree or disagree questionnaire.

                 The findings were as follows:

  1. The instructional competencies of teachers are composed of 5 components: 1) constructing and developing a curriculum 2) instructional design 3) instructional activities. 4) using and developing innovative media and technology for instruction 5) measurement and evaluation
  2. The current situation of instructional competencies development of teachers an overall was at a high level (gif.latex?\bar{x} = 3.93) and the expected situation of instructional competencies development was at the highest level (gif.latex?\bar{x} = 4.70).
  3. Needs assessments of instructional competencies development of teachers were 2 components: constructing and developing a curriculum (PNImodified = 0.238) and using and developing innovative media and technology for instruction (PNImodified = 0.208).
  4. The guidelines for instructional competencies development of teacher included constructing and developing a curriculum and using and developing innovative media and technology for instruction.
