Adoption of Good Agriculture Practices in Shallot production of Farmers in Faktha District, Uttaradit Province.

Abstract

         This research aimed to study (1) the social, economic conditions and the production farmers and shallot production by farmers, (2) adoption of good agriculture practices in shallot production of farmers (3) problems and recommendations about adoption of good agriculture practices in shallot production of farmers. The population of this research was shallot production of farmers in Faktha District, Uttaradit Province. And 137 member who had registered with the department of agricultural extension in 2021-2022. The 120-sample size was based on Taro Yamane formula a confidence level is 0.05. Structured interviews were used for data collection. Statistics used were frequency, percentage, mean, minimum, maximum, standard deviation and ranking.

         

The results indicated that (1) Most farmers were male, with an average age of 53.23

years. The average experience of growing shallots was 23.52 years. Participated in training an average of 1 times/year, the average planting area of 5.49 rai, mostly growing shallots 2 times per year, average income 268,833.33 baht/year, average cost 116,983.33 baht/year. Farmers use shallots bulbs stored in households. Weeds were eliminated using both chemicals and mechanical methods. All farmers sell their produce to middlemen. (2)Adoption of good agriculture practices in shallot production of farmers at the high level on issue namely: pre-harvest processes management, safety in the use of agricultural pesticides, post-harvest process management, using disease-free shallots, suitable cultivation area, data recording and sources of water  (mean 3.68). And (3) Farmers were faced with the problem of their produce lowered by middlemen, and the selling price of certified shallots was not different from that of shallots that did not get certification standards. It was suggested that related organizations should work together to solve the problem. Officials should developed more skills and knowledge about good agricultural practices for farmers.
