Extension Sweet Corn Production for Farmers in Chum Saeng District, Nakhon Sawan Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study 1) social and economic conditions 2) the conditions of sweet corn production. And 3) problems and recommendations with extension sweet corn production for farmers. The population of this research was maize production for farmers in Kabinburi District, Prachinburi Province. 250 member who had registered with the department of agricultural extension in 2021/2022. The 154 sample size was based on Taro Yamane formula with the error value of 0.05. Structured interviews were used for data collection. Statistics used were frequency, percentage, mean, minimum, maximum, standard deviation and ranking. The population of this research was sweet corn farmers in Chum Saeng District, Nakhon Sawan Province. And 349 member who had registered with the department of agricultural extension in 2022/2023. The 186 sample size was based on Taro Yamane formula with the error value of 0.05. Structured interviews were used for data collection. Statistics used were frequency, percentage, mean, minimum, maximum, standard deviation and ranking. The results indicated that 1) The farmers were male, with an average age of 45.00 years, graduated from junior high school. The average sweet corn production experience of 11.10 years, the average sweet corn growing area of 3.88 rai, the average sweet corn production cost of 4,552.15 baht per rai, the average sweet corn production income of 11,680.10 baht per rai. 2) Farmers use groundwater sources to produce sweet corn. The soil condition was sandy loam, use private hybrid varieties. There was no soil sampling and soil improvement. The average seed usage rate was 1.36 kilograms per rai. Chemicals are used to prevent and eliminate pests. And 3) agriculture has problems of extension sweet corn production at the highest lever on issue lack of knowledge on the safe use of chemicals. And suggestions at the highest level, should provide education about the safe use of chemicals.
