Abstract

The research aimed to study the perceptions of and attitudes towards plagiarism of Master’s students at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University and to compare both the perceptions and attitudes between the students of two different study plans (thesis and non-thesis plans) and among different years of study.  The data was collected through a self-administered online survey questionnaire. The population was the Master’s students who enrolled in the first semester of the academic year 2023. A total of 287 responded to the questionnaire: 157 in Plan A (thesis) and 130 in Plan B (independent study).

It was found that the perceptions of and attitudes towards plagiarism of the students were at the moderate level. The attitudes towards the University’s plagiarism policy and punishment were the highest, followed by the perceptions of plagiarism practices, and of its scope.  The lowest was the attitudes towards self-motivation in plagiarism. The perceptions of and attitudes towards plagiarism of the students with two disparate study plans and of various years of study were not found to be statistically different.
