The State of Information, Media and Digital Literacy Development for Distance Students of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) and Polytechnic University of the Philippines Open University System (PUP OUS)

This study aimed at studying the state of information, media and digital literacy
development for distance students of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) and
Polytechnic University of the Philippines Open University System(PUP OUS). The research
method included documentary and qualitative research. The purposive sample groupconsisted
of documents, 25 STOU administrators, faculty and librarians, and 30 distance students, 10 PUP
OUS deans, directors, teaching faculty and registered librarian and 10 students. The research
instruments included documentary analysis forms and interview/focus group guidelines. Content
analysis was used for qualitative data analy
Research findings showed that: 1) STOU and PUP OUS had similarities and differences
in information, media and digital literacy development for distance students in terms of policies,
management, distance learning management, and library and educational services and activities
supporting the information, media and digital literacy development for distance students in the new
learning environment moving more towards online learning, but not in holistic development, and
2) factors affecting the development included both external and internal factors.
