The Enhancement of Couple Marital Success Through Couple Therapy

Abstract

            This study aimed to: 1. develop a program to enhance marital success through couple therapy,. 2. examine the effect of the enhancing marital success program through couple therapy. The samples comprised 20 couples who were legally married, have been living together for more than a year, are Thai nationals, and live in Chonburi province. All 20 couple participants were divided into an experimental group and a control group, each of which was willing to take part in the study and had a mean score on the marital success scale lower than the normal score (Norms). The research instruments were a measurement of success in marital life and programs to enhance success in marriage. The statistics used were mean, standard deviation and two-way repeated measure analysis of variance. The results showed that 1. the program for enhancing success in marriage was administered for 10 counseling sessions, each lasting 60-90 minutes, 2. the results of examining the effects of the enhancing marital success program through couple therapy were: 1) at post-test and follow-up, the married couple who participated in the couple therapy program obtained a significantly higher score on marital success scales than the control group at .05 level. 2) the experimental group that participated in the enhancing marital success program through couple therapy obtained significantly higher scores on marital success at post-test and follow-up than pre-test at .05 level.
