Main Article Content
Abstract
This qualitative research employed participant observation, in-depth interviews, field notes, and documentary research. The objectives of the study were: (1) to examine the role of songs by the band Bodyslam in relation to the emotional competencies of the Commercial Pilot License Course, and (2) to explore the context of using music as a motivational support tool in commercial pilot training. The study aimed to analyze the multidimensional roles of music as a supportive instrument for enhancing the emotional competencies of the Commercial Pilot License Course. The findings, derived from interview transcription and song content analysis, revealed a clear connection between the influence of Bodyslam’s songs and the enhancement of emotional competencies among undergraduate commercial pilot cadets. The most frequently mentioned and popular songs included: (1) Chiwit Pen Khong Rao (Life Is Yours), (2) Khwam Chuea (Believe) (feat. Add Carabao), (3) Saeng Sut Thai (The Final Light), (4) Chiwit Yang Khong Suai Ngam (Life is Still Beautiful), (5) Ruea Lek Khuan Ok Chak Fang (A Small Boat should leave the shore), (6) Siao Winathi (A Split Second), (7) Thang Klap Ban (The Way Home), and (8) Bodyslam. Content analysis indicated that these songs positively influenced emotional competencies across multiple dimensions, including emotional mindfulness, positive affect and motivation enhancement, reduction of negative perspectives, emotional awareness, and emotional regulation, adaptation, and management. These competencies are essential for learning and flight training within the context of commercial aviation.
