RATTANABANLENG PIPHAT ENSEMBLE AND THE MUSICAL SUCCESSION OF MR. PIS RATTANASANTIA

Abstract

               The purpose of this academic article was to study general conditions of the Piphat band in Muang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, which is characterized by both traditional and folk styles. Rattanabanleng Piphat ensemble in Muang district, Nakhon Ratchasima province was examined by the author interview with the band leader, participant observation, data analysis, and descriptive presentation. According to the study results, Mr. Pis Rattanasnatia has acted as the founder and leader of the Rattanabanleng Piphat ensemble. The musicians in the band consist of a group of colleagues and disciples. They take the roles and duties on both rituals and performances in the community.

               Mr. Pis Rattanasantia inherited music from a variety of teachers, but most significantly, he was a member of the Ket Khong Muang Korat band of Kru Boonyang Ketkong. Rattanabanleng Piphat ensemble was formed by Mr. Pis Rattanasantia after the passing of Kru Boonyang Ketkong. Mr. Pis Rattanasantia has transferred the knowledge of music to 3 groups: family group, committed learners and students in the education system. In the teaching and learning process, musical instruments, media and technology have been used through traditional and modern applied teaching methods. Khong Wong Yai has been employed as the first tool for practicing Thai music as well as served as the song's main melody. The teacher starts playing the melody, followed by the students enhancing their skills through repetition.
