Abstract
This article was part of a research project on New Public Sector Shift: A Transformation of Power from Individuals to Social Change through Women’s Network and Women and Men Progressive Movement Foundation under the Alcohol Abstinence Project: Elimination of Violence against Women and Children with a concept of social movement as an analytical framework. A qualitative method has been applied to study the conceptual bases, strategies, mechanisms, processes, methods, and movements of the Women's Network. The study was conducted through two target groups: 1) the community leaders of the Alcohol Abstinence Project and the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children Project; and 2) those involved with the shared responsibility of the projects. The results of the study showed that there were 3 phases of the movement: (1) the era of forming the community network procession to stop drinking alcohol, leading to an elimination of violence against women and children (2) the era of alcoholics' community movement to an elimination of violence against women and children as a voice of social movement at the community-based level, as well as at the joint policy level, and create a mechanism to protect women and children from situations of violation; and (3) the era of social safety spaces creation under the protection of personal and family welfare as a new form of social movement that is “first-hand experience.” A challenge is how to translate “women's struggles” into a social discourse of “personal matters are common for others.”
