Guidelines for Designing Educational Institutions Websites for the Students at the School of Agricultural Technology, KMITL

Abstract

This research aims to 1) study the model and elements of the educational institution's website; 2) survey the needs and opinions of the students at the School of Agricultural Technology, KMITL; and 3) guide the design of the website of the School of Agricultural Technology, KMITL. This research is mixed-method research, consisting of qualitative research that studies and analyzes the content of the websites of the top 20 universities in Thailand from the Webometrics Ranking Web of Universities and quantitative research that surveys the needs and opinions of a total of 340 students, consisting of 312 undergraduate students and 19 graduate students. The research instrument includes a study of 20 websites and surveys and opinions from students in the School of Agricultural Technology, KMITL. Data was collected and analyzed from 20 websites to find website components and formats and surveys of student needs and opinions to find website design guidelines. The results revealed that 1) all 20 sites studied were structured and patterned according to the state website standards in terms of content and features and found that each website has differences in its unique characteristics, such as layout, use of colors, as well as the attitudes of each educational institution that make the content of the site different; 2) students' needs are as follows: The most basic information is News 96.5%. The most user interaction is in the communication channel, at 95.9%. Most of the site's features are names that convey meaning and are concise, short, and non-confusing. 92.9%; and 3) Website structure consisting of main menus, service user groups, and functions provides guidelines for website development.
