Using Phenomenon-Based Learning Approach to Enhance 21st Century Learning Skills of Graduate Students

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to develop a phenomenon-based learning management process in Philosophy of Education and School Curriculum Course, and 2) to assess learning graduate student’s skills of the 21^st century who learned by using phenomena. The target was 22 graduate students in Curriculum and Instruction major, School of Education, University of Phayao that registered for the course of 177711: Philosophy of Education and School Curriculum, in the academic year 2019. The instruments used in the research consisted of phenomenon-based learning management process and a 21^st century learning skills assessment form, data analysis using mean, standard deviation, and percentage.

The results showed that 1) 7 phenomenal-based learning management plans consisted of 5 steps of learning management, Step 1: Observe and select phenomena, Step 2: Understand the phenomenon, Step 3: Search for answers, Step 4: Synthesis of knowledge, and Step 5: Presentation and evaluation. The overall of learning management plans were appropriately at the highest level. 2) Most of graduate students who learned by using Phenomenon-based learning was at the very good level, which 81.12% of them had excellent skills in information, media and technology.
