Durian Farming Management Factors for Enhancing Export Production
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article aimed to 1) analyze factors in durian farming management that enhance durian efficiency for export, and 2) analyze the relationship between durian farming management factors and product quality for export. This was exploratory mixed-methods research combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. The sample group consisted of 30 durian farmers who grow durian for export, with at least 5 years of experience in export durian cultivation from Ban Na San and Ban Na Doem districts, selected through purposive sampling combined with quota subsampling. Data was collected using questionnaires and interviews, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, multiple regression, and linear correlation analysis.
The results revealed that 1) The factor with the greatest impact on durian yield was farmer experience, followed by investment in durian farming management, and then technology used. 2) Analysis of relationships between main variables found that durian yield variables have the highest positive correlation with farmer experience (r = 0.572). The regression equation is as follows: "Yield (kg/rai) = -1,420.8 + 58.7×Experience + 127.4×Size + 0.76×Investment + 198.5×Technology + 156.8×Soil Management - 18.9×Water Management + 9.8×Pest Control." This equation explains 71.7% of yield variance (r² = 0.717). Analysis of variance found that farmer groups with more than 20 years of experience had moderate yield variance (CV = 23.1%), with some farmers achieving high yields, indicating diversity in techniques and investment. Durian yield from suitable areas had export quality higher than 85%. Farmers prioritized climate conditions the most at the highest level, followed by soil management and marketing at high levels. The main problem was labor shortage, where farmer groups using high-level technology could reduce labor problems by 30.6% and reduced problems in using technology for durian farming management by 58.3% compared to groups using low-level technology.
