The Experiences of Stepping through Crisis Conditions of Death-Sentenced Prisoners in Bang Kwang Central Prison

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the experiences of stepping through crisis conditions of death-sentenced prisoners in Bang Kwang Central Prison in Nonthaburi province. This study employed qualitative research with the use of interpretative phenomenology interpretative notion. Key informants were 6 former death-sentenced prisoners, and 2current death-sentenced prisoners, obtained by purposive sampling according to assigned criteria.  An instrument used for data collection was an in-depth interview form. Data was analyzed by content analysis. Inductive conclusion was used to answer the research objective. Findings revealed that the experiences of stepping through crisis conditions of death-sentenced prisoners in Bang Kwang Central Prison in Nonthaburi province composed of 4 main issues. Main issue 1: Looking back on life composed of 4 sub-issues influencing the inculcating of concept on way of life which were (1) family, (2) education, (3) friends’ group, and (4) occupation.  Main issue 2: Mistaken composed of 3 sub-issues which were (1) being arrested, (2) appointing defense lawyers, and (3) ending at execution.  Main issue 3: Building up experiences composed of 2 sub-issues which were (1) university of life and (2) hang onto breath. Main issue 4: Stepping through the sea of bitterness composed of 2 sub-issues which were (1) father as a giver, and (2) the beloved of prisoners.
