Abstract

Textbooks and supplementary readings are important learning media that are used to develop learners to equip them with knowledge and important skills as required in the National Education Act.  They are learning media that directly benefit the learners.  Therefore, guidelines for creating textbooks and supplementary readings are very important because they will provide directions for textbook creators in both the state and private sectors to participate in creating textbooks and supplementary readings in order to have a lot more books which will result in development of the body of knowledge of learners.  Also, quality of textbooks and supplementary readings will be improved.  The methods for writing the two types of books are similar.  The only difference is the method of presentation which must be in accordance with the characteristics and objectives of each type of books.  The important thing that the book writer must consider is the correctness of its contents, the appropriateness of the contents for the age level of learners, and the truly relevance to the curriculum.
