Development of a Multimedia Phonics Learning Package to Enhance English Reading Skills for Grade 3 Students

Abstract

                The purposes of this research were 1) develop a multimedia phonics learning package for Grade 3 students; 2) evaluate the impact of the Phonics Multimedia Learning Package on students' English spelling proficiency through a pre-test and post-test comparison; 3) assess improvements in English reading comprehension resulting from the implementation of the Phonics Multimedia Learning Package and 4) assess student attitudes toward the instructional media.

                The sample consisted of 31 third-grade students from Grade 3 at Sri Sai Mun Municipality School during the first semester of the 2025 academic year. The samples were selected using simple random sampling. The research instruments included: 1) a multimedia learning packages titled phonics to promote English reading skills for third graders (5 sets); 2) 15 learning management plans; 3) 20 items measuring English pronunciation skills; 4) 20 items measuring English reading comprehension skills; and 5) 12 items measuring students’ attitudes toward the multimedia learning series. The statistical methods used for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, the E1/E2 efficiency index, and a one-sample t-test to analyze the accuracy, fluency, clarity, and confidence in English pronunciation and English reading comprehension.

                The research findings were 1) the efficiency of the multimedia learning set according to the 75/75 standard. The efficiency of the process (E1) and the effectiveness of the result (E2) were 76.26/75.81, 2) the English spelling test results before and after using the multimedia curriculum were 23.23% with an average of 4.65%, a standard deviation of 3.08% and a mean of 75.13%, a standard deviation of 3.65%, showing statistically significantly higher after-school levels. 05, 3) the English reading skills measurement test for understanding before and after using the multimedia set showed 38.71 percent reading English for understanding before school, 7.74 percent reading average, 3.49 percent reading standard deviation, and 75.97 percent average reading average, 15.19 percent reading standard deviation, showing statistically higher than before school. 05, 4) the evaluation of students' attitudes toward multimedia learning sets was very high with an average of 4.29 standard deviation of 0.86.
