Tobacco industry’s Corporate Social Responsibility activities

Abstract

          Tobacco industry uses Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities as a tool in promoting corporate public image and public relations, in order to reduce social resistance and to strengthen public trust at the national and international level.  Therefore, corporate social responsibility activities are being used as marketing and public relations strategies in order to create positive corporate image, with the objective of persuading policy makers and to influence over public health policy

            World Health Organization’s analysis report indicated that corporate social responsibility and tobacco industry are inherently contradicting between ethical behaviours and the selling of the product of death.   Therefore, Article 5.3 of the WHO-FCTC is necessary to effectively control tobacco industry.
