Health security perception of social security members: a case study of a government hospital

Abstract

This is a quantitative research to explore health security perception of social security members, and analyzed the relation between personal characteristics, health- social-financial status, service quality, and health security perception of social security members, in a government hospital. Data was collected from a sample group of 383 persons, through questionnaire. Data collection tool was questionnaires distributed in March, 2020. Statistics for data analysis include percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi-Square, and Multiple Regression Analysis

The research result showed that most sample were female, 37 years of age, married, graduated with a high school diploma, permanent working status, monthly social security contribution for 401-600 THB, employed by private organizations, with monthly salary of 10,001 – 15,000 THB, being a member of social security for more than 10 years, receiving social security benefits during last year - none. Health security perception of social security members were at a high level (x̄ = 3.65). For the correlation between factors, their occupation, and social security fund were related to their health security perception with statistical significance at p-value < 0.05. Service quality and social security benefit perception could be a statistically significance predictor of health security perception by 30.6% (= 0.306). Resilience was the highest predictor of service quality (Beta = .485, p<0.001) followed by social security benefit perception (Beta = .262, p<0.001). This research suggests that health care administration should emphasize on service quality and perceptions of social security benefits for members through strategic policy’s implementation by health care employees.
