Abstract

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread widely around the world and in Thailand. Village health volunteers (VHVs) are close to people and contribute to effective disease prevention and control. A cross-sectional survey aimed to determine the roles and factors associated with the roles towards COVID-19 prevention and control among VHVs. Data were collected by interviewing the samples of 385 VHVs working in Mueang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Data were analyzed and presented with percentages, means, standard deviations, and Chi-square test.

The results revealed that VHVs performed roles in preventing and controlling COVID-19 in the community at a fair level of 48.8%, a good level of 33.5%, and a level that should be improved by 17.7%. Factors statistically significant associated with their roles (p < 0.05) were training, perception, adequacy of equipment for the community operations, and receiving support for the role of VHVs. The findings indicated that the role of VHVs should be promoted by capability building in communication and how to give advice to the target audience. Support for the roles of VHVs should be continuously organized along with public relations, surveillance, and creating a safe community environment from COVID-19.
