Abstract

The objective of this research was to assess humanized care behaviours of the students at Sirindhorn College of Public Health Phitsanulok (SCPHPL), according to the preceptors’ and students’ perception. The sample consisted of 259 persons, they were 129 preceptors and 130 students selected by purposive sampling. The data was collected by using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and independent t-test at the significance level of 0.05.

The results showed that the perception of preceptors on students’ humanized care behaviours overall average scores (Mean=4.02± 0.12) and the three aspects were at the high level; analytical thinking (Mean=4.11±0.30), service mind (Mean=4.06±0.05) and consideration of patient rights and patient participation (Mean=3.87±0.38) respectively. The students’ perception on their behaviours overall average scores (Mean=4.25±0.22) and the three aspects were at high level; service mind (Mean=4.31±0.30), consideration of patient rights and patient participation (Mean=4.23±0.27) and analytical thinking (Mean=4.13±0.12) respectively. The preceptors perception average scores showed statistically significant (p-value<0.001) lower than the students’ perception on the average overall score, service mind aspect and consideration of patient rights and patient participation aspect respectively.

The recommendation is that, the college administrators may use the data to create humanized care guidelines for the students to prepare students' behavior to be consistent with the needs of the service provider.
