Factors Associated with Office Syndrome Preventive Behaviors among Public Health Personnel in Health Region 11, Thailand

Abstract

This cross-sectional analytical study aimed to assess office syndrome preventive behaviors and examine associated factors based on the PRECEDE model among public health personnel in Health Region 11. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire from 292 participants selected through stratified random sampling. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests were used for data analysis.

            The results showed that most participants were female (77.7%) and aged 30–44 years (43.8%). Overweight and obesity were found in 59.2% of participants, while 54.4% reported musculoskeletal pain. Overall office syndrome preventive behaviors were at a moderate level (68.2%). Working posture and workplace environment management behaviors were at a moderate level, whereas the use of preventive equipment was low. Factors significantly associated with preventive behaviors (p < 0.05) included musculoskeletal pain, job satisfaction, workstation suitability, availability of ergonomic equipment, and organizational health promotion policies.

            In conclusion, office syndrome preventive behaviors among public health personnel were at a moderate level and associated with individual, environmental, and organizational factors. Relevant organizations should promote ergonomic workplace environments and strengthen workplace health promotion measures to improve preventive behaviors among personnel.

This cross-sectional analytical study aimed to examine the level of office syndrome preventive behaviors, and identify factors associated with such behaviors among public health personnel in Health Region 11, Thailand. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from 292 participants, recruited through stratified random sampling from Provincial Public Health Offices across seven provinces in Upper Southern Thailand. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square test.

                  The results revealed that 59.2% of the participants were overweight or obese, while 54.4% reported cumulative musculoskeletal pain. Overall, office syndrome preventive behaviors were at a moderate level (68.2%). Preventive behaviors related to working posture and workplace environment management were also at a moderate level, whereas the use of preventive ergonomic equipment was at a low level. Factors significantly associated with office syndrome preventive behaviors (p < 0.05) included cumulative musculoskeletal pain, job satisfaction, workstation suitability, availability of office syndrome preventive equipment, and workplace health promotion policies.

                  In conclusion, office syndrome preventive behaviors among public health personnel remained at a moderate level, associated with individual, workplace environmental, and organizational factors. Therefore, relevant organizations should emphasize ergonomic workplace environments, by providing appropriate preventive equipment, and strengthen workplace health promotion policies, which were identified as factors associated with office syndrome preventive behaviors. These measures could contribute to the sustainable promotion of preventive behaviors among public health personnel.
