Factors Influencing the Participation of Village Health Volunteer Leaders in Diabetes Prevention in Chainat Province

Abstract

This cross-sectional analytical study aimed to investigate the factors influencing participation in diabetes prevention among village health volunteer leaders, in Chainat Province. The sample consisted of 315 village health volunteer leaders. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, including Chi-square analysis, Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient, and ordinal logistic regression analysis, with the statistical significance level set at 0.05.

        The results of the ordinal logistic regression analysis revealed that the predictive factors significantly associated with participation in diabetes prevention among village health volunteer leaders were health literacy, social support, and transformational leadership. Village health volunteer leaders with a moderate health literacy level were 2.90 times more likely (p-value = 0.007, 95% CI: 1.338–6.300) than those with a low level, to participate in diabetes prevention. Regarding social support, those with high and moderate levels were 18.35 times (p-value < 0.001, 95% CI: 6.469–52.044) and 5.22 times (p-value < 0.001, 95% CI: 2.401–11.361), respectively, more likely to participate than those with low levels. In addition, village health volunteer leaders with high and moderate levels of transformational leadership were 72.48 times (p-value < 0.001, 95% CI: 23.238–226.085) and 4.62 times (p-value < 0.001, 95% CI: 2.225–9.600), respectively, more likely to participate than those with low levels.

        The findings of this study provided empirical evidence for policymakers to plan and enhance the capacity and potential development of village health volunteer leaders in the future.
