Improvement of Social Policy for Standard of Living in Thailand Using Social Satisfaction Factors

Abstract
Social Policy entails the study of the social relations necessary for human wellbeing and the systems by which wellbeing may be promoted. This paper presents the results from Citizen Survey on social quality in Thailand by using the ACSQ (Asian Consortium for Social Quality) standard questionnaire conducted by King Prajadhipok’s Institute during 2010 and 2012 to explain the important factors affecting the public satisfaction on standard of living in Thailand and what kind of social policy should be formulated to enhance the wellbeing of Thai people. Thai present government concentrates mostly on so called “populist” policy which is considered to be different from welfare policy and there are a lot of controversies in Thai society. A lot of money has been spent to support the wellbeing of the people in rural area and the group of the poor. The results show that social trust and political participation have impact on satisfaction on standard of living. It was different from 2010 in which socio-economic status, education, and residence affected this satisfaction. Therefore, the social policies that are appropriate for Thailand should be implemented to strengthen the socio economic security that is related to those mentioned factors.
