Abstract

This research aimed to study the factors affecting motor vehicle theft committed by inmates employing preventive approach for motor vehicle theft. The sample of this quantitative research was 400 inmates who were charged with vehicle theft in Bangkok Remand Prison, Thonburi Remand Prison, and Minburi Remand Prison.The qualitative data were collected from 12 state authorities who were involved in crime prevention. Surveys and questionnaires were used in collecting the quantitative data while interviews using a semi- structured questions was employed to collect the qualitative data. The results showed that the factors that affect the number of times that the samples who were charged with vehicle theft were gang involvement, the different fellowship, outweigh and losses, and were statistically significant at the 0.05 level. However, the imitation has no impact on motor vehicle. For preventive measure, government sector should launch a campaign to the public in order to promote vehicle protection. Moreover, police officers are required to improve the system of patrols and the community must collaborate in community monitoring to terminate the cycle of offense.
