Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop and examine the psychometric properties of the Self-Advocacy Assessment for Employees, designed to evaluate individuals’ levels of self-advocacy among employees aged 25–54 years. The study focused on assessing the reliability and internal consistency of the items, as well as analyzing their discrimination power. The trial sample consisted of 30 voluntary participants who met the inclusion criteria as employees within the target age range. The adapted assessment was developed for use in the employee context and comprised three dimensions: Knowledge of Self, Knowledge of Rights, and Communication Skills, totaling 22 items aligned with the theoretical framework. The content validity of the instrument was verified by experts using the Index of Item-Objective Congruence (IOC). Item analysis included the Corrected Item–Total Correlation (CITC) for item discrimination and Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient for internal consistency. The results showed an overall reliability coefficient of .863, with five items having discrimination values below .20. After removing these items, the remaining 17 items continued to represent all theoretical dimensions. A reanalysis yielded an improved overall reliability coefficient of .905, with all items meeting the discrimination criteria. These findings indicate that the Self-Advocacy Assessment for Employees demonstrates good internal consistency and is suitable for practical use among the intended population.
