GUIDELINES FOR ETHICAL PUBLISHING PRACTICES IN THAITESOL Journal

The publication of articles in the THAITESOL Journal should contribute to a credible and respected body of knowledge, fostering honesty and integrity among authors, editors, reviewers, publishers, and institutions. The following guidelines outline our commitment to these principles, applicable to all types of papers published by the THAITESOL Journal.

  • 1. All the work reported in the manuscript must be original and free from any kind of plagiarism. The work should not have been published elsewhere or submitted to any other journal(s) at the same time.
  • 2. Any potential conflict of interest must be clearly acknowledged.
  • 3. Proper acknowledgements to other work reported (individual/company/institution) must be given. Permission must be obtained from any content used from other sources.
  • 4. Only those who have made any substantial contribution to the interpretation or composition of the submitted work, should be listed as ‘Authors’. While other contributors should be mentioned as ‘co-authors’.
  • 5. The ethics statement for THAITESOL Journal is based on those by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Code of Conduct guidelines available at publicationethics.org

Editorial Responsibilities:

  • 1. Originality and Integrity: Ensure all published articles are the original work of the authors, free from plagiarism and fabricated data.
  • 2. Fair and Unbiased Submission Handling: Treat all submissions impartially, regardless of the author’s race, gender, religion, nationality, or affiliation. THAITESOL uses a standardized electronic submission system to promote transparency and trust throughout the process. Authors can appeal editorial decisions through a clear, established process.
  • 3. Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality of all submissions, including communications about the manuscript. Editorial team members must not use AI tools to process any confidential information or use unpublished materials from submissions for personal research without the authors' consent.
  • 4. Peer Review: Facilitate an anonymous, fair, timely, and unbiased peer review process. Select qualified reviewers, ensuring diverse and inclusive representation, and consider potential conflicts of interest.
  • 5. Ethical Standards Compliance: Guarantee that all published articles adhere to the journal's ethical standards, including conflict of interest avoidance and participant protection in research.
  • 6. Manuscript Rejection: The Editorial Team may reject a manuscript at any stage if ethical standards are violated. Editors may consult with others but will uphold these standards.
  • 7. Use of AI in Editorial Processes: Editorial members must not use AI tools to evaluate or make decisions about manuscripts due to concerns about confidentiality, proprietary rights, and data privacy. Editors are solely responsible for editorial decisions and communications.

Authors’ Responsibilities:

  • 1. Authorship: Authorship should reflect substantial contributions to the research. Contributors should be acknowledged, but only significant contributors listed as authors. Changes to authorship after submission require all authors' consent and will be considered only in exceptional circumstances.
  • 2. Academic Integrity: Ensure all work is original and properly cites others’ work. Plagiarism, including the use of AI-generated content without proper attribution, is strictly prohibited. Obtain necessary permissions for any reproduced content.
  • 3. Accuracy: Accurately present research findings. Fabrication or falsification of data is unacceptable.
  • 4. Exclusive Submission: Do not submit the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously.
  • 5. Conflict of Interest: Disclose any potential conflicts that could influence the research.
  • 6. Research Ethics: Adhere to ethical standards when involving human or animal subjects, including informed consent and institutional approval.
  • 7. Error Correction: Promptly notify the editor of significant errors in published work and collaborate on corrections or retractions if needed.
  • 8. Use of AI Tools: AI tools may be used to enhance readability but not to generate text, paraphrase, or analyze data. Authors should disclose any AI usage in the declarations section and not list AI tools as authors.

Reviewer Responsibilities:

  • 1. Confidentiality: Keep the manuscript and all associated information confidential. Do not use unpublished material for personal research without permission.
  • 2. Fair and Unbiased Evaluation: Provide constructive and unbiased feedback, focusing on content and scientific quality.
  • 3. Conflict of Interest: Disclose any conflicts that may affect impartiality.
  • 4. Respect for Intellectual Property: Respect the authors’ intellectual property rights and do not use the manuscript's information for personal gain.
  • 5. Use of AI in Review Processes: Reviewers should not use AI tools to assist with manuscript evaluation or decision-making, to ensure confidentiality and reliability.

Ethical Considerations and Investigations:

If ethical concerns arise, the journal will conduct a thorough, impartial investigation, adhering to COPE guidelines (https://publicationethics.org/resources/code-conduct):

  • 1. Forming an investigation committee free from conflicts of interest.
  • 2. Utilizing plagiarism detection tools and carefully reviewing suspicious content.
  • 3. Giving the accused author a fair chance to respond.
  • 4. Keeping investigations confidential to ensure fairness.
  • 5. Taking appropriate actions, such as suspension or retraction, if misconduct is found.
  • 6. Informing all involved parties of the outcome if allegations are unfounded.
  • 7. Monitoring for ethical concerns throughout the publication process.
