บทคัดย่อ

การเมืองชาติพันธุ์ครอบงำกระบวนการสร้างชาติมาเลเซียนับแต่ประเทศแห่งนี้ได้รับเอกราช บทความชิ้นนี้ศึกษามิติทางการเมืองของภาพยนตร์มาเลเซียที่สร้างขึ้นตั้งแต่ทศวรรษ 1970 ถึงสหัสวรรษใหม่ผ่านการทบทวนเนื้อเรื่องและประเด็นนำเสนอในภาพยนตร์เรื่องสำคัญโดยพิจารณาควบคู่กับบริบททางสังคมการเมืองในแต่ละช่วงเวลา การศึกษานี้พบว่าอัตลักษณ์ว่าด้วยชาติและชาติพันธุ์ยังคงเป็นหนึ่งในประเด็นวิวาทะสำคัญของภาพยนตร์มาเลเซีย คู่ขนานไปกับการเมืองชาติพันธุ์ที่ยังคงครอบงำการเมืองมาเลเซียอยู่จนถึงปัจจุบัน
