Abstract

This research, entitled “Decision to Pursue Further Education and Expectations from Studying in the Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Languages Program at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University,” aimed to: (1) investigate the factors influencing students’ decisions to pursue higher education, and (2) examine their expectations regarding their studies in the Bachelor of Arts Program in East Asian Languages. The sample comprised 117 first- to fourth-year students enrolled in the East Asian Languages Program at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University during the 2025 academic year, selected using proportional stratified random sampling based on academic tracks. The sample size was determined using Yamane’s formula (1973) at a 0.05 level of significance, comprising 57 students from the Japanese Language track and 60 students from the Korean Language track. Data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire consisting of four sections. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including the means and standard deviations.

The findings revealed that the overall level of factors influencing students’ decisions to pursue further education was high. Specifically, institutional factors had the highest mean, followed by financial factors, and social, value, and career-belief factors, whereas family and significant others had a moderate level of influence. Regarding educational expectations, the overall level was high across all dimensions. The highest mean score was found for expectations regarding teaching quality, followed by expectations concerning the applicability of knowledge and skills, instructional management, and extracurricular activities, respectively. These findings indicate that students place high importance on teaching quality, the practical application of acquired knowledge, a modern curriculum, and activities that enhance their skills and experiences beyond the classroom.
