Abstract

The objectives of this study were to 1) compare undergraduate students’ English communication skills before and after using artificial intelligence technology (ChatGPT), and 2) examine the students’ attitude towards learning English through using ChatGPT. The sample comprised 36 undergraduate students at Thepsatri Rajabhat University enrolled in the second semester of the 2025 academic year, selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included English communication skill pre-tests and post-tests, and a questionnaire on students' attitudes toward learning English. Data were analyzed by using means (equation), standard deviations (S.D.), and dependent samples t-tests.

The results revealed that the students’ English communication skills after using ChatGPT were statistically significantly higher than before using at the .05 level (t = 14.59). In addition, students had a positive attitude toward learning English using ChatGPT, with the overall attitude at a high level (equation)= 4.18, S.D.= 0.75). These finding demonstrate that ChatGPT is an effective innovation for enhancing language learning and fostering positive attitudes among learners.
