THE ANALYSIS OF CHUICHAAY - HANAO DANCING PROCESS BASED ON WANGSUANKULARB DRAMA STYLE

Abstract

The research aimed at studying the role of Hanao, the character in the royal play written by King Rama V, Ngaupa, and Chuichaay dancing elements and process which have been inherited from Wangsuankularb by Instructor Lamoon Yamakoop. The results of the study revealed that Hanao which was an important character who performed Chuichaay dance in the play, Ngaupa, shown from Wangsuankularb band through Wangpetchaboon band. Instructor Lamoon who took the role as Hanao, learned the dancing from Instructor Ngim when she was at Wangsuankularb and learned more about dancing from Lady Pheun when she was at Wangpetchaboon. So Instructor Lamoon was instructed about Ngau dancing with high performance. The dancing process of Chuichaay-hanao is like Ngau dancing in Sangthong play. However, there are some differences between these two Ngau characters. Ngau Sang was from the literature which most people considered as supernatural and inherited from the royal which dancing like lunatic to hide the real character, whereas Ngau Hanao was like normal Ngau people who lived in jungle. So the dancing process was designed to be like the real character as much as possible. The dancing of Chuichaay Hanao based on Wangsuankularb pattern showed the dancing posture of Ngau with specific identity such as laughing posture, keeping weapon posture, kicking weapon posture, as well as the walking manner which hides knees of character. It could be said that this is a complete preservation of Ngau dancing.
