THE STUDY OF CONDITIONS AND APPROACHES TO INTEGRATING RESEARCH AND CREATIVE WORKS IN ARTS AND CULTURE WITH TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESS AT BUNDITPATANASILPA INSTITUTE

The purposes of this research were (1) to study research, creative works, and teaching and learning process at Bunditpatanasilpa Institute and (2) to investigate appropriate approaches to integrating art and cultural research and creative works with teaching and learning process. The sample consisted of 164 key informants including administrators, heads of department, and lecturers. Data were collected by using questionnaires which had been verified for quality by content validity and an in-depth interview which was conducted with key informants comprising experts, administrators and heads of department.
The research results were found as follows: Bunditpatanasilpa Institute integrated research and creative works in arts and culture with teaching and learning process in accordance with the institute's philosophy “Being an education institution specialized in arts which aims to create knowledge in arts and produces graduates with knowledge and moral excellence to preserve national arts and culture.” The institute provided various curricula including basic professional level, Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and Doctoral degree. It also preserved good traditions, supported doing research and creative works, provided funds for research and creative works continually covering all kinds of art and cultural education.
Four approaches to integrating research and creative works in arts and culture with teaching and learning process were found to be appropriate at highest levels as follows: (1) Students learned research or creative works to understand their process, (2) Lecturers made use of research results or creative works in part of teaching, (3) Students listened to lecturers’ presentations of research or creative works as well as participated in the national or international research conferences, (4) Graduate students joined the lecturer team to do research or creative works. Based on the current context of society, three main approaches were found to be in accordance with the institute's philosophy. These are (1) Preserving Thai traditions and culture, (2) Combining old and new culture, and (3) Exposing to unlimited imagination and creativity to create artistic excellence
