Abstract

This qualitative research aimed at: 1) examining The Arts of Khean accompaniment for Lam Tangsan; 2) exploring the guidelines for preservation, transmission of the arts of Khean accompaniment for Lam Tangsan. Written document and field data were collected. The field data were obtained through interviews and observation from 3 key-informants, 6 casual informants, and 6 general informants. The results of the study showed that the arts of Khean accompaniment for Lam Tangsan contained 2 types. 

Khean accompaniment for Lam Tangsan consisted of two forms called Katenkon and Changteammae.Concerning the khean accompaniment, it was found that there was a fixed khean pattern of 4 beats repeated like an ostinato in Western music. Khaen accompaniment used a short pattern of 4 beats, repeatedly in the same mode of Lam Tangsan. Preservation and transmission of the arts of Khean accompaniment for Lam Tangsan can be done by giving importance on the knowledge with the personal ability.The government should give support to artists for their well-beings, and give financial support for the youths who want to become professional artists. The government should help artists to establish their own organization for their strength, stability, and honor as other professions. In conclusion, the results of the study can be used in terms of the instruction and the transmission of cultural arts as well as for national in which the government should give the support and take a good care of artist’s profession.
