CREATION OF CONTEMPORARY ART BASED ON BUDDHIST COSMOLOGY CONCEPTION

Abstract

This creation aimed at studying the history of representations of the Tribhumi and Buddhism Cosmology Beliefs in Lan Na art and conducting an analytical study of the knowledge to get inspiration for contemporary art creation. The results show that the Buddhist cosmology concept was developed from the profound wisdom in explaining the nature of the soul by creating the imaginative reflection of the abstract part in order to explain the human spiritual structure using comparative symbols to the concrete experience in the material world. In Lan Na society, the Buddhist concept of cosmology formed an important basis of the ancient wisdom reflecting their strong faith in Buddhism and the superior power of their kings as revealed in their literary works as well as their arts. The accomplishment of Lan Na art creation depicted the depth of Buddhist philosophy through the symbolic form of the cosmology concept as could be holistically perceived in all disciplines of their art creation. In addition, the researcher created some contemporary art installations depicting Lan Na identity and uniqueness that reflected their faith in Buddhism in some symbolic forms by means of interpreting the cosmology concept in Lan Na art in order to pass on the thinking, culture and outcome of the Buddhist intellect.
