Abstract

             

               The objectives of academic articles titled “The Body of Knowledge of Traditional Music Scholar: A Case Study of Master Amnat Nun-iad” were to examine the biography, works, and patterns of southern folk music. Moreover, also analyzed the created approaches to music, the Nang Talung series, with the process of collecting knowledge from scholars and artists. The results revealed that Master Amnat Nun-iad was born in 1951 and is currently 71years old. He started learning the piano for the southern folk song at age 15, having knowledge and ability to play music for Nora performances, Nang Talung, and created southern folk dances. He could play at least 300 southern folk songs. His musical works included the creation of melodies for the southern folk dance performances, music for Nora and Nang Talung, Recording LP arrangements, Nang Talung music, and southern folk music with an accent of Luk Thung, etc. Master Amnat Nun-iad's practice for playing the traditional music in the southernregion consisted of 5 steps: naming, sitting posture practice, catching the reed oboe, holding the tongue, and practicing how to sound. The sound training divided the pitches into four tones: low, mid, high, and treble. The creative approach to music for the performance of the Nang Talung series by Master Amnat Nun-iad had principles and methods of practice that are unique by studying the basic information related to the show, which was taken into the musical context. The created music style had short and uncomplicated melodies. The musical elements used to create a song include the pitch of the reed oboe, front speed stroke, and music mood.
