CHAIMONGKOL DRUM: A COMPARISON BETWEEN LEARNING PRINCIPLES OF MANOP YARANA, LARN NA FOLK PHILOSOPHER, AND BLOOM’S TAXONOMY

Abstract

               This article presented a comparison between Chaimongkol drumming skill learning principle of Larn Na folk philosopher named “Manop Yarana” and the principle of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Manop Yarana is a national artist of performing arts (northern folk dancer or Chang Forn) announced in 2005. The results showed similarities in two teaching methods. Manop Yarana’s learning principle consists of 3 steps as follows: 1) student acceptance, which is in accordance with Bloom’s affective domain, 2) basic training, which can be connected to Bloom’s cognitive domain, and 3) practical application or skill development for higher practice, which is related to psychomotor domain of Bloom. Regarding a difference between these two learning principles, it was found that in the dimension of cultural inheritance of Manop Yarana, after the students achieved the learning goal, his students would apply, modify and transfer knowledge to others continuously while Bloom’s principle of learning ended after evaluation or graduation.
