CONTEMPORARY LACQUERWARE PAINTING INSPIRED BY THE SOUTHERN THAI WAYS OF LIFE

Abstract

               The contemporary lacquerware painting inspired by the southern Thai ways of life aimed 1) to create a series of works named "Contemporary lacquerware painting inspired by the southern Thai way of life," and 2) to use the contemporary lacquerware technique to create the artwork on batik fabric and other natural materials.

               The results show that applying transparent Vietnamese lacquer gum to the batik cloth and using acrylic paint is a unique stage for base preparation, as the technique accentuates the patterns and shapes drawn with the acrylic paint on the batik cloth. The patterns illustrate overlapped golden layers over the transparent Vietnamese lacquer gum base, which is glazed on batik cloth and other natural materials. Moreover, by using a special inconsistent gilding technique to apply 100% gold leaves and scientific gold powder to the artwork, the artist successfully presents happiness, memories, love, and a bond in the family through this series of contemporary lacquerware paintings.
