CREATIVE PERPETUATION OF THAI CLASSIC LITERATURE IN “WAI MAN PHAN ARSOON’S DRAMA”

Abstract

This article aimed to study the characteristics of creative perpetuation of Thai classic literary characters from Thai literary heritage in the drama "Wai Man Phan Assoon" by adapting Thai literary heritage from the stories of Kraithong, Kawhi, and Sangsilchai for creative work. The study found that the playwrights have two methods of the creative perpetuation of Thai classic literature adapting Thai literary heritage into the drama: 1) adapting and applying characters from the literary heritage into new roles, and 2) using events from the literary heritage in the new script. These methods of the creative perpetuation of Thai classic literary characters from Thai literary heritage in the mentioned drama help to add color and new roles according to the author's imagination, while still using the stories and characters in the literary heritage as a foundation to stimulate thinking and imagination, demonstrating the dimension of inheriting the dynamic tradition of literature and creative perpetuation of Thai literary heritage in the present day.
