THE CREATION OF CONTEMPORARY ISAN FOLK MUSIC “LAI LONG NATEE SONG FUNG KHONG”

Abstract

The creation of contemporary Isan folk music “Lai Long Natee Song Fung Khong” aimed to 1) study the knowledge of ethnic music of the Mekong River in the Northeast region, 2) create contemporary Isan folk music “Lai Long Natee Song Fung Kong,” and 3) Publicize the creation of contemporary Isan folk music. There are several significant findings from the creation of contemporary Isan folk music to reveal as below: 1. The knowledge of ethnic music in the Mekong River Basin in the Northeast is similar to that of Lao PDR. The creative idea came from a cruise along the Mekong River to study ways of life and culture as follows: 1) Chiang Khan District, Loei Province, Chaiyaburi 2) Nong Khai Province and Vientiane Capital 3) Nakhon Phanom Province, Khammouane, and Savannakhet 4) Khemmarat District, Ubon Ratchathani Province and Champasak. 2. The creation of contemporary Isan folk music “Lai Long Natee Song Fung Kong” was divided into 4 parts including Chiang Khan Muan Chuen, Nong Khai Muan Lai, Nakhon Phanom Onzon, and Ubon Lam Phloen. The concepts used in composing music comprised 1) The combination of Isan folk music culture and western music, 2) Showing the uniqueness of Isan folk music such as beat, blow, and tinsel instruments, and 3) The implementation of technology into composing music “Lai Long Natee Song Fung Kong” to create new tone and meaning. 3. Contemporary Isan folk music creation "Lai Long Natee Song Fung Kong" was distributed on YouTube, Facebook and Thai broadcasting stations.
