HUA TAKHE: MEMORIES, LIFESTYLES AND THE FUTURE SCENARIO OF THE ANCIENT MARKET COMMUNITY

Abstract

Since the past, local communities have developed a bond with the local rivers. One of the most evident proofs is the local floating market, schools, temples or waterfront shrines. This study aimed to study the background and the lifestyles and make a prediction about the future scenario of the Hua Ta-khe community. Data were collected from examining relevant documents and non-participant observation and interviews with the key informants. The study found that Hua Ta-khe community is multicultural. It has been developed to become a cultural tourism destination by providing unauthentic activities to engage the visitors as well as business operations in a traditional local style. The study recommended that conservation and restoration of the community authenticity should be promoted for the sustainability of the community.
