Abstract

The objectives of this research were (1) to construct the diagnostic test in mathematics on substance 4  Algebra for Prathomsuksa 6 students, (2) to validate the quality of the diagnostic test in mathematics, and (3) to create the manual of diagnostic test. The research samples were composed of 489 Prathomsuksa 6 students under Lopburi Primary Educational Service Area Office 2 which were randomly drawn by the multi-stage ramdom sampling. To construct the diagnostic test research results revealed that 3 subsets of diagnostic test in mathematics were the soundness tests that could be efficiently used to diagnose students defect in mathematics as follows: The first test, basic knowledge of true or false equation, composed of 9 items, the item difficulty index ranged from 0.67 to 0.79, the discrimination index ranged from 0.43 to 0.65, and the internal consistency reliability was 0.87.  The second test, solving equation, composed of 24 items, the item difficulty   index ranged from 0.69 to 0.80, the discrimination index ranged from 0.39 to 0.79, and the internal consistency reliability was 0.93. The third test, solving word problem of equation, composed of 48 items, the item difficulty index ranged from 0.65 to 0.80, the discrimination index ranged from 0.20 to 0.80, and the internal consistency reliability was 0.97, and the manual of diagnostic test had fully important composition, easy to understand, and could be used to guide the diagnostic test administration.
