Agreement on Port State Measures to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing: The Improvement of Thai Fisheries Law

Abstract

The purposes of this research were (1) to study the problems of Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU Fishing); (2) to study the principle of Agreement on Port State Measures to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing; and (3) to analyse whether the laws on fishery is amended according to the agreement. Thailand submitted on Retrievedion in order to be a partner of the agreement on May 6, 2016. Hence, Thailand must strictly comply with the mentioned agreement. Thus, the laws on fishery must be amended according to the agreement. The findings indicated that Thailand did not completely amend the laws on fishery. The laws also did not cover the agreement, especially for promotion measures and international co-operations for solving illegal fishery.
