People’s Participation in the Strategic Plan Development of Prawet District Office Bangkok Metropolis

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the level of people’s participation in strategic plan development of Prawet District Office 2) to compare the people’s participation in strategic plan development classified by the samples’ personal factors and 3) to study problems, obstacles and recommendations of people’ participation in strategic plan development. This research was a mixed study using a sample group of 400 people derived by multi-stage random sampling technique. Questionnaires with reliability value of 0.92 were used for collecting data. Moreover, frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation as well as hypothesis testing were used for data analysis. In terms of quantitative data derived from purposive samples by in-depth interviews and focus group activities were analyzed by content analysis techniques. The research results were as follows: The people’s participation in strategic plan development of the Prawet District Office was at a moderate level. In terms of comparison on people’s participation, it was found that there were significantly statistical differences of participation in strategic plan development among people with different gender, age, education level, occupation and average monthly income. It was also recommended that people should be involved with government agencies. Considering the problems and sufferings of the people in the community primarily, there should be a selection of representatives of the committee to formulate a strategic development plan. Furthermore, the public interest should be given to the people as much as possible, and should be monitored and evaluated according to the strategic development plan every 4 months.
