FACTORS ANALYSIS FOR REDUCING THE TRANSPORTATION COST IN LAEM CHABANG PORTS BY ANALYTICS HIERARCHY PROCESS TECHNIQUE

Abstract

        The objective of this research was to 1) to analyze the factors affecting the cost of container transportation in Laem Chabang Port 2) to apply the results of the
study to reduce the cost of container transportation in Laem Chabang Port. The samples used in the research were container transporters entrepreneur in Laem
Chabang Port who are transport experts, with 5 years of experience in the operation from five companies. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire to
determine the priority of the factors affecting the cost of container transportation in Laem Chabang Port. The data were collected from the primary source so that they
could be directly interpreted and defined the sample. Then Information obtained from the data collection and from the study of relevant documents and research
was used for data analysis. The data were analyzed by using Analytics Hierarchy Process technique (AHP) to find out the factors affecting the cost of container
transportation entrepreneur in Laem Chabang Port. The results revealed that the order of the factors affecting container transportation were as 1) transportation costs
2) transportation times 3) transportation safety 4) the frequency of transportation. The most important transport was ship transportation with the average of 54%,
followed by rail transportation, the average of 25% and road transportation with the average of 21%, respectively. The conclusion can be drawn from the study that ship
transportation was the best way for transport with container systems. A further analysis of transportation from Laem Chabang Port to Songkhla Province in terms of
weight of goods transportation, it was shown ship transportation has a weight of 0.479, rail transportation has a weight of 0.269 and road transportation has weight
0.252.
