Abstract

The purposes of this research were to study the level of participation, factors that affect the participation, and problems and obstacles, as well as recommendations for the participation of local people in ecotourism management. This was a quantitative research with a sample group consisting of 323 people who live in Baan Sanlomjoy Community, Suthep Sub-District, Muang District, Chiangmai. It used questionnaires, focus group, and note-taking to collect statistical data. The tools used to analyze the data included frequency distribution, averaging, and percentage.
The research result was finds that the participation in ecotourism management of most people in Sanlomjoy community was at and intermediate level. The factors affecting the participation in ecotourism management, which are viewed by most people in the community as intermediate level of significance, consisted of recognition of sufficient information and data, participation in planning meeting, participation in decision-making, assignments to perform different duties, following up and evaluation of performance, receiving payments and returned from activitied or projects, and impacts on everyday life. The sense of conservation, loving, and caring for the home land was viewed by the majority of Sanlomjoy people as high level of significance.
