Music in the Way of Life of Chinese Ethnic Groups in Nakhon Sawan Province

Abstract

This research aims 1) to study the condition of the Chinese band in Nakhon Sawan province and 2) to study Chinese music culture in the way of life of Chinese  ethnic groups in Nakhon Sawan Province. The Qualitative research based on  ethnomusicology in the main research methodology. By  using data from documents  and collecting data from the fieldwork primarily. The survey was conducted by  observing and interviewing informants, Chinese musicians and Chinese music as in the  group of inherited Chinese music. Research instruments were survey form,  observation  form and interview form. The results of the research presented in descriptive analysis  method.

The findings were as follows: Chinese music in Nakhon Sawan at present are  to be seen at the associations, foundations and educational institutions. The musical  instruments used is divided into 2 types: melody instrument and  rhythmic instrument.  2 types of notation are Chinese numerical notation and western number notation.  The 2 transferring methods: transferring knowledge by self-learning through practicing  on listening, memorizing, and imitating. And transferring knowledge by providing  teachers with knowledge and skills in Chinese music directly as a relay. Chinese music  culture in the way of life of Chinese ethnic groups in Nakhon Sawan Province  consisting of Chinese music used in the performance and Chinese music used in  rituals.
