The Development of Thai Font Forms Visual Communication in Pattani Provinces

Abstract

The researcher aims to study the identity of visual culture in Pattani province by analyzing the development pathways taken by the Thai script found in the locality. This attempt will result in a script that can be used as a means of communication and an indicator of uniqueness of this area.

The purpose of this research, “the Development of Thai Script for Communication in the Multicultural Society of the Three Border Provinces in Thailand”, is threefold: 1) to study the identity of Thai scripts found in visual culture of Pattani province and apply it to script design, 2) to investigate the developmental trends of Thai script found in Pattani province’s visual culture, and 3) to acquire a distinctive script from studying the visual culture of Pattani province. This script shall be plausibly utilized for communication and reflect the uniqueness of Pattani province.

The area of study comprises the entirety of Amphoe Mueang district of Pattani province. The results of the research are analyzed to determine the direction of script development. Analysis and assessment are conducted by script development experts for the sake of bringing about an alternative design that depicts Pattani province’s identity.

The outcome of this study produced a unique Thai script that resulted from thorough scrutiny of Pattani’s visual culture. The analysis of the local culture subsequently led to a digital form of this script.
