Problem Solving Procedure in Nuisance Management: A Case Study in Chiang Dao Subdistrict Municipality, Chiang Mai Province

Abstract

               This qualitative research aimed to study problem solving procedure in nuisance complaint management in terms of dust, ash or smoke, noise, smell and garbage. This study used 12 case studies from Chiang Dao Sub -district Municipality, Chiang Mai Province. Data collection was conducted by interviewing related individuals and documented nuisance complaints.

               From all case studies, eight of them were concerning about smell of garbage and chemicals; one was about dust and smoke, and three dealt with noise and dogs. Chiang Dao Subdistrict Municipality had systematically solved these nuisance problems by implementing clear procedures and mediation processes. After solving issues, all case studies were mediated, and none of them were submitted to administrative officers.

               This current study suggested that if a team responsible for solving/mediating a problem was knowledgeable, had systematic problem solving and educated people about nuisance management, the problem solving procedures of an organization would be more effective.
