The Development of Opisthorchiasis Prevention Model with community participation in Sri Khot Subdistrict, Chaturaphak Phiman District, Roi Et Province

This study employed Participatory Action Research (PAR). The objectives were to develop of Opisthorchiasis prevention model with community participation in Sri Khot Subdistrict, Chaturaphak Phiman District. Roi Et Province.
The study sample consisted of 48 members of the Si Khot Subdistrict Health Assembly and 283 residents aged 15 years and above. The research process was conducted in four stages of the PAOR cycle (Planning, Action, Observation, Reflection) over a period of four months. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions and questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, inferential statistics (Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test), and content analysis.
The results showed that the developed Opisthorchiasis prevention model comprised 6 activities: (1) educational training, (2) developing health leaders, (3) raising community awareness, (4) behavior monitoring and follow-up, (5) fostering collaboration among network partners, and (6) establishing social measures for the prevention of Opisthorchiasis within the community. After implementation, the sample group showed statistically significant increases in mean scores for knowledge, health literacy, behavior, and participation in Opisthorchiasis prevention (p-value < 0.001).
The success factors included (1) active participation of network partners, (2) Leaders and core members helped drive the initiative to success, and (3) clear risk communication that enabled residents to adopt appropriate Opisthorchiasis prevention behaviors.
